Tarek Atoui

Tarek Atoui (* 1980 in Beirut ) is a Lebanese- French electroacoustic musician and sound artist .

life and work

Tarek Atoui moved to Paris in 1998. He studied contemporary electro-acoustic music at the French National Conservatory in Reims and released his first solo album in 2006/2007 with the Staalplaat record label (Amsterdam / Berlin) in the series Mort Aux Vaches . Atoui has been the artistic director of Steim Studios in Amsterdam since 2008 .

At dOCUMENTA (13) Atoui performed Un-drum 1 , a work that was inspired by Erkki Kurenniemi's DIMI synthesizers . Atoui spent five years researching the interactions between sound as vibration , instruments and the bodies of the performers and the bodies of the audience. The resulting performance within was presented at the Sharjah Biennial 11 in 2013 . Atoui's starting point for The Metastable Cut (2013) is the Electronic Music Studio (EMS), founded in Stockholm in 1964, and the important role it played in the development of electronic music and sound art .
