Tarfala is a basin in the historic northern Swedish province of Lapland , into which three glaciers flow. In the valley, in the Kebnekaise area, there is a hut belonging to Svenska Turistföreningen and a glacier research station, from which the glaciers are observed and their decline is documented. The best-known and most-studied glacier is the Storglaciären , on which mass balance measurements have been carried out every year since 1945 , the longest complete series of measurements in the world. The research station is operated by Stockholm University .
