Tarubá

Tarubá is a sweet, aromatic, slightly intoxicating drink that is produced in northern Brazil .

It is made from beijus , small cakes made from cassava or tapioca flour that are soaked briefly and then wrapped in curumi and banana leaves.

These are left for a few days until the bejus form a doughy, syrupy mass. This is passed through a sieve and dissolved in water. When the whole thing has settled, you can drink it.

This drink was adopted from the indigenous people of Brazil by the Portuguese colonizers .
