Pocket money for children and young people

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The allowance for children and young people is a regular amount of money at the personal disposal of a child, youth or adolescents. It serves to fulfill individual wishes and has the general educational purpose of familiarizing young people with how to deal with money independently.

Germany

Payment and amount

The amount of pocket money paid by parents is not stipulated by law; Children and young people have no legal right to pocket money. The amount is a decision of the parents and, if necessary, a matter of negotiation within the family.

The family handbook of the State Institute for Early Childhood Education and other private or non-profit initiatives are now making suggestions for the type and amount of pocket money withdrawal. Costs for clothing, school supplies and school trips are often financed by the parents independently of the pocket money. Other services such as helping around the house can also be rewarded.

Pocket money with separated parents

Pocket money is part of the costs of upbringing according to § 1610 BGB: the entries in the Düsseldorf table “take into account the average cost of living of a minor child who lives with one parent. This includes the cost of housing, food, health care, vacation and leisure time, the maintenance of artistic and sporting interests and pocket money ”.

Pocket money for minors in assisted living

According to Section 39 of Book VIII of the Social Code, young people who are placed in external youth welfare are granted “an appropriate amount of cash for personal disposal”. State administrative documents contain tables that regulate the amount of pocket money in this case.

Contract effectiveness

In Germany, the pocket money paragraph ( § 110 BGB) stipulates that contracts that children and young people conclude to the extent of the money made freely available to them are legally effective. The pocket money paragraph is based on Section 106 BGB, according to which children and young people from 7 to under 18 years of age have only limited legal capacity.
