State Institute for Early Education

The State Institute for Early Education (IFP) is a scientific institution of the Free State of Bavaria for the further development of early childhood education with a focus on early childhood education . It was founded in January 1972 and is based in Munich . The higher-level authority is the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs .

In addition to early childhood research and its implementation in practice, the IFP advises politics and maintains an exchange with national and international institutions and research facilities.

The IFP information service publishes once a year in the specialist journal Education, Upbringing, Care for Children in Bavaria about current research, pilot projects and other relevant information. In addition, the IFP employees publish in numerous specialist books and journals.

The institute was co-founded in 1972 by Wassilios Fthenakis and headed by him as director from 1975 to 2002. The institute is currently headed by Fabienne Becker-Stoll.
