The Tasman Island Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on Tasman Island on the southeast coast of Tasmania , Australia .

It is one of the most isolated and highest towers in Australia. The tower was built at the highest point on the island at 250 meters on the edge of rocky cliffs, and the signal light is emitted at a height of 276 meters. The Tasman Island lighthouse was built in 1906 and automated in 1976. On the 1.2 km² island, the lighthouse keepers were reluctant to do their duty because of the excessively frequent wind and rain. In 1930 a radio station was built next to the lighthouse, which is no longer available today. The lighthouse has been powered by solar energy since 1999 .

Tasman Island is part of the Tasman National Park . After the automation of the lighthouse, the buildings fell into disrepair. The lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper's house are on the Australian Register of the National Estate and have been repaired. The original Fresnel lens , made by Chance Brothers, can be viewed at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney and the original lantern at the Maritime Museum of Tasmania in Hobart .
