List of Australian lighthouses and lightships
This list includes lighthouses and lightships in Australia .
There are over 350 lighthouses and navigational aids along the 25,760 km long coastline of Australia and inland there is the Point Malcolm Lighthouse , the only lighthouse in the Australian interior.
The first lighthouse to be built in Australia was the Macquarie Lighthouse , an erected wooden tripod with a charcoal beacon. The last human-operated lighting took place in the Australian Maatsuyker Island Lighthouse on Maatsuyker Island , off the south coast of Tasmania . The lighting was automated in 1996.
management
Most of the lighthouses and lightships in Australia are operated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) together with the local authorities. You are responsible for the lighthouses and the parks surrounding them, although the AMSA is usually only responsible for the lighting.
In New South Wales the lighthouses and parks are operated by the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water or New South Wales Department of Lands and in the Northern Territory some lighthouses are operated by the Port Corporation in Darwin . In South Australia , some stations are managed by the Department for Environment and Heritage . and in Tasmania , the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service operates numerous lighthouses. In Victoria, assistance is primarily provided by the Port of Melbourne Corporation in the Melbourne area and the Victorian Regional Channels Authority , as most of the parks are operated by the Parks Victoria administration . In addition, some listed stations are maintained by the Department of Environment and Conservation in Western Australia .

New South Wales
There are several lighthouses in New South Wales that were designed around the same time by the same architects with a similar design and therefore show a similar design. These are:
- Wollongong Breakwater Lighthouse and Warden Head Light , built 1872–1873 and initiated by Edward O. Moriarty
- Crowdy Head Light , Fingal Head Light , Clarence River Light (the original is now dismantled), Tacking Point Lighthouse and Richmond River Light , designed by James Barnet in 1878
- Point Perpendicular Lighthouse (1899), Cape Byron Light (1901) and Norah Head Light (1903) designed by Charles Assinder Harding
- Bradley's Head Light (1905) and Robertson Point Light (1910)
- The "Disney Castles", Grotto Point Light , Parriwi Head Light , Vaucluse Bay Range Front Light and Vaucluse Bay Range Rear Light , built 1910–1911 by Maurice Festu
- The "Wedding Cakes", Eastern Channel Pile Light and Western Channel Pile Light built in 1924
Northern Territory
Most of the lighthouses in the Northern Territory were built by the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service during the "Golden Age of Australian Lighthouses" (German: Golden Age of Australian Lighthouses ), between 1913 and 1920. These are the Cape Don Light , East Vernon Light , Emery Point Light , Cape Hotham Light, and Cape Fourcroy .
Of these five lighthouses, three can be understood as "siblings": Cape Hotham Light , Emery Point Light and Cape Fourcroy Light . They can be identified as white, square-shaped, skeletonized towers and they have the same light characteristics, which emit a flash of light every 15 seconds. (Fl. (3) 15s).

Registration
The lighthouses and lightships of Australia are registered in the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency ( List of Lights publication 111) and also with the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office Admiralty List of Lights & Fog Signals (Volume K). The ARLHS World List of Lights marks these lighthouses with the designation "AUS".
There are also other registrations: In The Lighthouse Directory , the lighthouses are registered according to area:
- Coral Sea Islands Territory
- New South Wales , including Cape St George Lighthouse which is in the Jervis Bay Territory .
- Northern Territory
- East coast of Queensland , heading south from Townsville
- Remote Queensland
- South Australia
- Tasmania
- Victoria
- Western Australia
Another list is the Lighthouses of Australia Inc. , which lists the lighthouses according to the Australian states:
- Western Australia
- Northern Territory
- South Australia
- Queensland
- New South Wales
- Victoria
- Tasmania
There is also an Australian Lighthouses website listing the lighthouses by state.
Another list of lighthouses can be found at SeaSide Lights , which divides the lighthouses according to the Australian states:
- Western Australia
- Northern Territory
- South Australia
- Queensland
- New South Wales
- Victoria
- Tasmania
An active Australian lighthouse must be listed in one of the directories The Lighthouse Directory , Lighthouses of Australia Inc. or on SeaSide Lights . Other lists also include stations that are difficult to call lighthouses, as historical lighthouses are sometimes registered when they are also mentioned in other available lists.
