The North Mole Lighthouse ( North Mole Lighthouse ) is a beacon on the west end of the Port of Fremantle in Western Australia . It is operated by the Fremantle Port Authority .

The small lighthouse on the north pier, which was built in the 1890s, has been in operation since 1906. The red light at the fire height of 15 meters above sea level shows the western side of the port entrance and is visible up to a distance of 11 nautical miles. A lighthouse of the same type with a green light is on the south pier at the port entrance. The two towers are the last of this type of construction that still exist in Australia.

The 15-meter-high, red-and-white painted cast iron tower was designed by Charles O'Connor , an engineer who worked on the construction of the Port of Fremantle. The lighthouse's original lighting soon proved too weak for this location and was moved to Broome to be re-used at the Gantheaume Point lighthouse in northern Western Australia.

The lighthouse on the north pier was first green. It was later given the red signal color when the initially white light of the tower of the south pier was replaced by red to avoid confusion with the Woodman Lighthouse .
