Günter Edin

Günter Edin (born October 20, 1941 in Munich ; † August 13, 2016 in Germering ) was a German musician , songwriter and composer .

Career

Günter Edin was already composing at the age of eight and, like Konstantin Wecker , was a member of Rudolf Lamy's Lamy children's choir as a child. He was also involved in various film recordings with the choir. B. in the film The Trapp Family with Ruth Leuwerik , where he sang the child actors with the other choir members. As a 17-year-old he was allowed to lead the Lamy Choir partially independently. After graduating from the Maria-Theresia School, he first did a commercial apprenticeship, then studied piano, composition and conducting at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich with Magda Rusy and Rochus Gebhardt. At the age of 20 he composed the “Prinzenwalzer” for the Hugo Strasser Orchestra , and later also orchestral and chamber music, ballets, operas, choral works, musicals and piano works as well as film and theater music. He was a co-founder of several music schools in Bavaria. For a few years he was the director of the youth music school in Graefelfing, during which time he made personal acquaintance with Carl Orff , an encounter that also influenced him musically.

In addition to his work as a piano teacher (partly privately, partly at the Gräfelfinger and Neurieder music schools) Edin composed several musicals such as Der kleine Lord (libretto and lyrics by Gabriele Misch - some lyrics by Fini Busch), Kalif Storch , Zwerg Nase , Der Meisterdieb , Die Umwelthasser, Rohrmoser's Höllenfahrt and Emil and the Detectives (Libretto Birgit Edin). In the 1980s he performed as a songwriter in Munich. His songwriting hit “Moppelchen” was the title song in the series “As long as there is love ” in a slightly modified version and with a text adaptation by Fini Busch (director: Michael Braun , actors: Toni Berger and Monika Baumgartner ). Later he accompanied his wife Gabriele Misch as a pianist - often together with Eric Stevens on double bass and Günther Hauser on drums - whose texts he set to music. With his wife he ran the music publisher edition a-fine , which their father inherited , and a Hildegard Knef album was also released there.

Günter Edin achieved greater success with his musical “The Little Lord”, the production and staging of which Stefan Zimmermann took over with the a.gon Theater and which took him on tour in German-speaking countries for five years. In the first season Alexander Kerst took on the role of Earl, later Pavel Fieber and Gunnar Möller .

In his last years Günter Edin composed a large mass (The Roman Mass) that has not yet been premiered.

Edin was married three times, his first marriage to Maria Edin-Kroll, from this marriage his two children come, and his second marriage to Heidrun Edin (née Schmidt), he remained married to his third wife Gabriele Misch until his death.

Günter Edin died at the age of 74 and is buried in the Germeringer forest cemetery.
