Point Danger Light (also Captain Cook Memorial Light ) is a lighthouse about 120 km from Brisbane on Point Danger , a headland between Coolangatta , Queensland and Tweed Heads , New South Wales , which forms the border between these two states of Australia . It is said to be the first lighthouse in the world on which laser beams were used for lighting .
history
Point Danger Light was the third in a group of seven reinforced concrete lighthouses that were built in Queensland between 1964 and 1979; in the order of construction these were Cape Capricorn Light , New Caloundra Light , Point Danger Light, New Burnett Heads Light , Fitzroy Island Light , Point Cartwright Light and Archer Point Light . The structure was built in 1971. The structure commemorates the bicentenary of James Cook's first voyage to the South Sea and in particular his journey along the east coast of Australia in 1770. The lighthouse was put into operation on April 18, 1971.
The original light source was an experimental laser-based light; Point Danger Light was among the first, maybe even the first, to use laser light. However, the experiment did not bring the desired success, so in 1975 the light source was replaced by an ordinary electrically operated lamp.
Beacon
The identification of the lighthouse shows two flashes with a repetition rate of ten seconds (Fl. (2) W. 10s), which are visible from 170 ° to 330 ° and have a range of eleven nautical miles . indicates ten nautical miles, The Point Danger Lighthouse ( English ) In: Queensland Lighthouses . The light source is an electric lamp that is fed by a battery and receives its mains voltage by trickle charging from the mains .
Building
The lighthouse consists of reinforced concrete columns pointing in the four cardinal directions , between which a bronze sculpture is suspended. Next to the lighthouse is a one-story Marine Rescue NSW building , the Point Danger Station . The tower has a height of around 20 m.
The lighthouse is operated by NSW Maritime . The lighthouse area can be entered, but access to the tower is closed to the public.
