Coordinates: 34 ° 39 ′ S , 150 ° 51 ′ E The Municipality of Kiama is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 257.7 km² and has about 21,500 inhabitants.
Kiama is located in the east of the state on the Pacific coast in the Illawarra region, about 115 km south of the metropolis of Sydney and 230 km northeast of the Australian capital Canberra . The area comprises 25 districts and villages: Beachside, Bombo, Broughton Village, Budderoo, Carrington Falls, Curramore, Foxground, Gainsborough, Gerringong, Gerroa, Jamberoo, Jerrara, Kiama, Kiama Downs, Kiama Heights, Kiama South, Knights Hill, Minnamurra, Omega, Riversdale, Rose Valley, Saddleback Mountain, Werri Beach, Willow Vale and part of Toolijooa. The Shire Council is based in the coastal town of Kiama , which has a population of around 13,500.

The Kiama Municipal Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. Kiama is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
