Tatiana Petrovna Makarova

Tatjana Petrovna Makarowa ( Russian Татьяна Петровна Макарова ; born September 25, 1920 in Moscow , † August 25, 1944 in Ostrołęka ) was a Soviet bomber pilot .

During the Second World War , she did military service with the night witches , which consisted of women only , who flew combat missions at night with simple Polikarpow Po-2 biplanes .

Tatiana Makarowa was shot down over Poland on her 628th mission.

Posthumously she was given the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
