Tatu Ylönen

Tatu Ylönen (* 1968 ) is a Finnish computer scientist and the developer of the SSH protocol for establishing encrypted network connections.

Tatu Ylönen graduated from Helsinki University with a Master of Science degree in Computer Science in 1992 . In 1995 he developed the SSH protocol as a reaction to various sniffer attacks on RSH and Telnet connections, which he published as free software.

At the end of 1995 he founded SSH Communication Services to market and develop SSH. Before that he had built up and managed several companies. These include New Generation Software Ltd. (NGS, 1988) and Applied Computing Research Ltd. (ACR, 1994), both of which still exist.

Tatu Ylönen is a member of the ICSA (International Computer Security Association), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force).
