A thousand souls

A thousand souls ( Russian Тысяча душ ) is a novel by Alexei Pissemski (1821–1881). The work was published in 1858. The title and the subject of the novel are based on Gogol's masterpiece The Dead Souls . Both works deal with the phenomenon of moral and moral decay of a protagonist who unswervingly pursues his goals in a depraved society.
