Tautra (Midsund)

Tautra is an island on the Norwegian coast of the Northern European Sea and belongs to the municipality of Molde in the province of Møre og Romsdal .

The elongated island is at the eastern end of the Midfjord . To the east of the island the Julsund , the Moldefjord and the Romsdalsfjord meet. To the west of Tautras is the island of Løholmen , before the east end the islets of Apalholmen and Måsskjeret . The sea route leads north of the island to Molde to the east .

Tautra extends in a west-east direction over about three kilometers with a width of up to about 600 meters and reaches a height of up to 43 meters. There are several houses on the wooded, approximately 1.5 km² island. A protected harbor is located on the north-eastern bank of the Nordigardsbukta . A road leads west from the harbor into the interior of the island. The western end of the island is part of the Tautra West nature reserve .

In the south-west of the island are the archaeological areas Søre-Tautra and Søre-Tautra 2 , which are designated cultural monuments . The Tautra Nordre tomb is located on the south bank of the island .
