Tayfun Belgin

Tayfun Belgin (born August 3, 1956 in Zonguldak , Turkey ) is a German museum director and art historian.

Life

Belgin came to Germany in 1961 from his native Turkey. From 1967 to 1971 he attended the German-Turkish boarding school in Istanbul and graduated from high school in 1979 in Wuppertal . For a short time he played drums in a rock band and then studied art history, philosophy and history at the Ruhr University in Bochum , among others with Max Imdahl . In 1991 he received his doctorate in Bochum with a thesis on Rolf-Gunter Dienst .

From 1985 to 1988 he headed the Kunstverein Ruhr e. V. in Essen and then worked in the renowned Essen gallery Neher. From 1990 to 2003, Belgin was curator of the collection and, since 1999, also head of department at the Museum Ostwall in Dortmund . From 2003 to 2007 he directed the Kunsthalle Krems . In 2007 he was appointed director of the Osthaus Museum Hagen , which was founded in 1902 as Museum Folkwang and the world's first museum for contemporary art by Karl Ernst Osthaus . Belgin has headed the newly formed department of culture in the city of Hagen since 2012.

Tayfun Belgin curated numerous nationally and internationally important exhibitions, for example Von der Brücke zum Blauer Reiter , Alexej von Jawlensky - Reise, Freunde, Wandlungen and retrospectives on Miró, Immendorff, Lüpertz and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, among others.
