TeXShop is an open source program for using TeX or LaTeX under macOS . TeXShop requires an existing TeX installation. The editor is part of MacTeX .

It was developed by the American math professor Richard Koch. TeXShop was created especially for Aqua (the user interface of OS X) and benefits from the native PDF support of the Apple operating system. Mitsuhiro Shishikura expanded it to include the ability to translate mathematical expressions directly into keynote presentations.

The program was awarded a prize, the Apple Design Award , by Apple in 2002 for TeXShop 1.19 for its successful user interface .

While the interface has been practically unchanged for many years, the range of functions has been expanded several times. For example, since the Tiger version , TeXShop has been able to jump back and forth between source text and preview even without auxiliary programs.

With version number 1.35, TeXShop has been expanded to include XeTeX support.
