Teach for America

Teach For America is a non-profit organization in the United States that aims to build a national movement to eradicate educational injustice. It also places outstanding university graduates as temporary teachers in schools in low-income areas for two years .

In 2010, around 4,500 program participants were selected from over 46,000 applicants. Among other things, 17 percent of all Harvard graduates applied to participate. In the meantime, independent studies have documented the success of the concept.

The organization was founded in 1990 by Wendy Kopp, who Time counts among the 100 Most Influential People in the World.

In 2002, Teach First was founded in the UK , an organization with similar goals. In the meantime, with Teach For All, there is a network that supports the establishment of independent organizations in other countries, for example Teach First Germany and Teach For Austria .
