history

Teatro della Concordia in Monte Castello di Vibio. Ceiling fresco by Luigi Agretti , 1892.

The theater was built in the early 19th century at the time of the occupation by Napoleon's troops at the request of nine wealthy families native to Monte Castello di Vibio and opened in 1808. With the name Concordia - Unity , the builders wanted to remember the ideals of the French Revolution of freedom, equality and fraternity. The decorations, the curtains and the stage background were made by the painter Cesare Agretti from La Spezia . His son Luigi Agretti created frescoes for the interior of the theater in 1892 when he was only 15 years old.

In 1823, the then owners of the theater founded the Accademia dei soci del Teatro della Concordia , a company to manage the house. In 1951 the theater was closed due to its poor structural condition and in 1981, exactly thirty years later, it was acquired by the municipality and then restored. The restoration took seven years and was led by architects Paolo Leonelli and Mario Struzzi. In 1993 the theater was reopened by the Società del Teatro della Concordia association, founded in the same year . Edoardo Brenci , the president of this association, has been planning a series of events with numerous theater performances, concerts, exhibitions and readings in his honorary role as director and artistic director of the house. In 1997 the Teatro della Concordia was linked in partnership with the Teatro Farnese of Parma . In 2008, a big ceremony took place to mark the bicentenary of the Teatro della Concordia, at which the Sala Espositiva Nello Latini was inaugurated, an exhibition room set up in the basement of the theater in memory of Nello Latini, the co-founder and former honorary president of the Società del Teatro della Concordia.

Well-known artists who have performed in the Teatro della Concordia include the Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida and the Austrian guitarist Johanna Beisteiner .
