The Technical University of Muroran ( Japanese 室 蘭 工業 大学 , Muroran kōgyō daigaku , English Muroran Institute of Technology , short: Murokōdai ( 室 工 大 )) is a state university in Japan . It is located in Mizumotochō, Muroran in Hokkaidō Prefecture .
history
The university's history began in 1887 with the creation of the technical college department at Sapporo Agricultural College . The technical school renamed itself a few times, and in 1947 it was called the Technical School Department of Civil Engineering at Hokkaidō University ( 北海道 大学 附属 土木 専 門 部 , Hokkaidō daigaku fuzoku doboku semmon-bu ).
In 1939 the Muroran Higher Technical School ( 室 蘭 高等 工業 学校 , Muroran kōtō kōgyō gakkō ) was founded (departments: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, mining and metallurgy), and in 1941 it moved to today's Mizumotochō campus. In 1944 it was renamed to Technikum Muroran ( 室 蘭 工業 専 門 学校 , Muroran kōgyō semmon gakkō ).
In 1949, the Technical University of Muroran was founded through the merger of the two universities of applied sciences. In 1990 she received the right to award doctorates.
There is a faculty that consists of four departments.
