Technical assistant for metallography and physical material analysis is an apprenticeship in Germany.

Job description

The metallography is a field of materials science and literally means metal description. Metallographers mainly deal with the microstructure of materials and make their contribution to quality assurance / material testing in laboratories in industry and research. The professional field of "metallography" was developed at the Lette-Verein in Berlin around 1906 and has been continuously updated since then. Originally it was a purely female job. Since the introduction of the technical diploma in training (1976), men have also been interested in this area of materials science. Today, not only metals are the subject of analysis, but also combinations of metal, glass, ceramic and plastic. Since 1988, the job title for metallographers trained at the Lette-Verein with a state examination has been: Technical assistant for metallography and physical material analysis , since 2017 the job title has been technical assistant for metallography and material analysis . Another training location in Germany is the technical vocational college in Solingen , where technical assistants for metallography and materials science are trained.

education

The training as a technical assistant for metallography and physical material analysis at the Lette-Verein is a state-recognized school-based vocational training and can be completed after three years with the technical diploma. High school graduates will be trained in this profession, which is in great demand by the industry, in just two years, as they already have a university entrance qualification.
