Technology Center for Computer Science and Information Technology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Technologie-Zentrum Informatik und Informationstechnik (TZI) is an institute of Faculty 1 Physics , Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Faculty 3, Mathematics and Computer Science , at the University of Bremen . In 2009, according to the TZI, 150 scientific staff worked in more than 100 national and international projects and (as of 2008) over six million euros in third-party funding was acquired . The TZI is funded by the German Research Foundation, among others.

history

The TZI was founded in 1995 under the leadership of Professor Otthein Herzog as an institute in the field of mathematics and computer science. With the decision of the Academic Senate of the University of Bremen on July 13, 2005, the Center for Information and Communication Technology (ikom) was incorporated into the TZI as a new area, so that working groups from the Department of Physics , Electrical Engineering and Information Technology are now also involved.

The application-oriented project work is structured by three main themes, each of which is researched by interdisciplinary teams: adaptive communication, human-centered information systems and cognitive enabled assistance.

The TZI is also the initiator of the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) EASE (Everyday Activity Science and Engineering) of the German Research Foundation . As part of the SFB, together with other institutes from the University of Bremen , the Technical University of Munich , the University of Bielefeld , the DFKI and the DLR , new approaches are being used to ensure that robots implement abstract instructions independently - they enable them to learn, so to speak.

structure

The working groups in the TCI that existed in 2017 are structured around the following main themes:
