The Technologiestiftung Berlin is a legal foundation under civil law with its seat in Berlin .

Earlier company names were TSB Technologiestiftung Berlin (until 2013) and Technologiestiftung Innovationszentrum Berlin (from 1994 to 2006).

Purpose of the statutes

The Technology Foundation is a non-profit foundation with a foundation capital of approx. EUR 32.6 million. Its statutory task is to promote science and research as well as education in relation to innovative natural and engineering technologies. The Technologiestiftung Berlin aims to develop the Berlin-Brandenburg region into an important location in selected technology fields.

Operational activity

The foundation brings current technology issues to the attention of decision-makers from regional economy, science, politics and administration, shows the relevance of these technologies for regional development and gives recommendations for the regional further development of technological competencies. To this end, the Technology Foundation carries out regional strengths / weaknesses analyzes on current technology fields. It determines the potential for cooperation between researchers from public research institutions and industrial research in the region and identifies suitable measures for the further development of the technology fields. From this she develops recommendations for action and project proposals for the target groups mentioned. In addition to regional SWOT analyzes on individual technology areas, it provides politics, science, business and the interested public with data and facts on the development of Berlin as a high-tech location.

The foundation also supports the dialogue between science, business and politics through events and public relations. It works closely with universities and research institutions in Berlin .

Project funding

The foundation administers the Analytical X-ray Physics Foundation, established by 13 small and medium-sized companies, from which an endowed professorship at the Technical University of Berlin is financed.

Awarding of prizes

The foundation also supports the awarding of various prizes for particularly innovative scientific or technical achievements, including the Berlin-Brandenburg Innovation Prize .

Holdings

The 100% subsidiary TSB Innovationsagentur Berlin GmbH with tasks in technology transfer, in the regional networking of science and business in selected technology areas and in the initiation of projects merged with Berlin Partner GmbH to form Berlin Partner for Business and Technology GmbH in September 2013 which the Technologiestiftung Berlin has a share of almost 1/3. Furthermore, there is a 50.00% stake in Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin gGmbH, which conducts research and development on water technologies.

The foundation is managed by its board of directors. The board of trustees defines the principles of the foundation's work. Representatives from business, science and politics are represented on the Board of Trustees of the Technologiestiftung Berlin. The board consists of the chairman Nicolas Zimmer , Steffen Döring and Martina Schraudner. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees is Matthias Patz.
