Technorati

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Technorati was a US Internet company headquartered in San Francisco that was founded in November 2002 by David L. Sifry . The company's main products were initially a search engine specifically for blogs and, from 2014, an internet marketing platform that could be used to deliver advertising content to participating websites and blogs, comparable to Google AdSense .

In February 2016, Technorati was acquired by Synacor for $ 3 million .

Business model

Until May 2014, Technorati mainly operated a real-time internet search engine for blogs. By mid-February 2008, around 112.8 million blogs and 2 billion links were indexed .

The relevance of a page is determined by the number of links that refer to it. The weighting of the hyperlinks plays a special role in assessing the relevance of blogs, as many blogs live from commenting on other websites. Technorati took advantage of this and gave pages that were mentioned a higher priority than those that were less often commented on. In order to be informed about the latest status of the indexed websites, Technorati was able to use the web alert principle to blog the search engine operator about a change in a blog.

Technorati used and supported open source software and had an active developer community . There was a public developer wiki where developers and other contributors worked together.

On May 28, 2014 Technorati announced on its website that from now on the company's focus would be on the advertising platform.
