Teco Cardoso

Teco Cardoso (born October 25, 1960 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian jazz saxophonist and flutist.

Cardoso had been a member of the group ZonAzul and the group Pau Brasil since the late 1980s , with whom he recorded five albums. He also played other recordings with Edu Lobo ( Corrupião ), Dori Caymmi ( Kicking Cans ), Joyce ( Delírio de Orfeu , Live at the Mojo Club and Ilha Brasil ), Hermeto Pascoal ( Só Don't Toca Quem nicht Quer ) and João Donato ( Coisas tão Simples ) a.

From 1990 to 1992 he lived in Los Angeles and worked there with Guilherme Vergueiro , Dori Caymmi , Oscar Castro-Neves , Leny Andrade , Ivan Lins , Toots Thielemans , Moacir Santos and Walter Booker . With the guitarist Ulisses Rocha he recorded the album Caminhos Cruzados , which was rated by the critics as one of the best instrumental albums of 1994.

As a member of the Quarteto Livre, he worked on the album Pra Que Mentir and performed at the Chorando Alto Festival with guitarist Jim Hall . With the pianist Benjamin Taubkin he founded the label Núcleo Contemporâneo in 1987, on which his first solo album Meu Brasil was released the following year . This was awarded the Prêmio Sharp - 98 in the instrumental music category.

With Caíto Marcondes he composed the soundtrack for the film O Cineasta da Selva and recorded it. The recording was nominated for the Prêmio Sharp - 99 . With the Orquestra Popular de Câmara he won the Prêmio Movimento - 99 for the album of the same name . Cardoso's second album Quinteto was created in 1999 from joint appearances with the flautist Léa Freire in the USA .
