Eduardo de Góes (Edu) Lobo (born August 29, 1943 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian singer , arranger and composer . He became known in the 1960s through the bossa nova and is considered one of the driving forces behind the Música Popular Brasileira .

Live and act

Lobo, whose father was the composer Fernando Lobo, founded his first trio with Dori Caymmi and Marcos Valle at the age of 18 . From 1962 he worked on songwriting with the lyricist Vinicius de Moraes . Influenced by the work of Antonio Carlos Jobim , João Gilberto and Baden Powell , he presented his debut album A Musica de Edu Lobo por Edu Lobo in 1963 ; In the same year he wrote the music for the play Os Azerados Mais Os Benvidos by Oduvaldo Vianna Filho , which should be followed by further collaborations in the theater sector . With Nara Leão and the Tamba Trio, he presented the album Cinco Na Bossa in 1965 . In the same year he was celebrated with his composition "Arrastão", which became a hit with the singer Elis Regina , at the first annual festival of the Música Popular Brasileira. Another success followed in 1967 with “Ponteio”.

At the end of the 1960s he was in the USA, where he worked with saxophonist Paul Desmond ; he then toured with Sérgio Mendes & Brasil 66 . After returning to Brazil, he also worked as a film composer. His compositions also include Pra dizer Adeus and Upa, Neguinho . He also worked with Toots Thielemans , Monica Salmaso , Sarah Vaughan , Earth, Wind & Fire, and Caterina Valente .
