Lenine - Brazilian musician and songwriter

Lenine (actually Osvaldo Lenine Macedo Pimentel ; born February 2, 1959 in Recife ) is a Brazilian musician and songwriter from Pernambuco .

Act

Lenine began his musical career in the early 1980s and initially combined the traditional music of the Brazilian northeast with punk music . For example, he played maracatu on oil barrels and screamed African songs. Since then, Lenine has experimented with many forms of music - mostly combining modern electronic music with traditional Brazilian music. The texts of his pieces are bizarre poetry. His breakthrough came in 1997 with the CD O Dia Em Que Faremos Contato . The album Na Pressão was his international breakthrough in 1999. He performed at the Moers Festival in 2000 (with his own group) and in 2013 (with the Martin Fondse Orchestra) . “Like all great musicians in Brazil, he is first and foremost a singer / songwriter . However, he differs from all other colleagues in his tireless research drive, which led him to increasingly experiment with electronics . "

Between 2002 and 2009 he won the Latin Grammy five times in the categories Best Brazilian Contemporary Album and Best Brazilian Song .

Dionne Warwick , Gilberto Gil and Daniela Mercury sing his pieces; Lenine himself plays as a guitarist with musicians like Marcos Suzano and Chico César .
