Tegano ('Ndrangheta)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tegano mafia family comes from the Archi district of Reggio Calabria and belongs to the Calabrian mafia 'Ndrangheta . The Tegano family is one of the most influential Mafia families in Calabria.

history

The Tegano family earned their fortune in the criminal business through an extensive drug and arms trade , through prostitution , extortion and money laundering. According to an Italian institute, the turnover of the family's criminal transactions in 2007 is said to have amounted to 44 billion euros.

The Tegano family was allied with the De Stefano mafia family in the Second 'Ndrangheta War from 1985 to 1991 . The alliance of the families came about through the wedding on December 2, 1985 of Orazio De Stefano - a brother of Paolo De Stefano - with Antonietta Benestare, a niece of Giovanni Tegano . The Tegano family was seen as the more powerful partner. The war was waged by the De Stefano family with the Condello - Imerti mafia families . According to the anti-mafia commission of the Italian parliament, 621 people were killed in this family war, among them the most important mafia leaders of the De Stefano family . The Tegano family intended to continue the war.

In the 1990s, the Tegano family was the negotiating partner between the Mafia families in Calabria. The De Stefano , Libri and Latella families stood on the one hand against the Imerti , Serraino , Condello and Rosmini families on the other. In these negotiations, the criminal areas of influence in the region should be divided.

Heads of the family and the 'Ndrangheta

Until the day of his arrest on August 6, 2004, Pasquale Tegano (* 1960) had been head of the Tegano family since 1994. He was followed by Giovanni Tegano, who was arrested on April 26, 2010. The police were also able to arrest Rocco Morabito . Rocco is the son of Giuseppe Morabito , the boss of the Calabrian mafia family Di Africo . The families De Stefano and Tegano share their criminal areas except for kidnapping, where there is a separation. The Tegano family also ensured that the head of the 'Ndrangheta, Pasquale Condello (* 1950), took a neutral stance towards the De Stefano family . Until his arrest on September 12, 2009, Carmelo Barbaro (* 1948) was the regional head of the Tegano, De Stefano families and a dozen other affiliated families .
