Paoli studied social and political sciences at the University of Florence from 1990 to 1997 . In 1997 she graduated with a thesis on the Italian Mafia to Dr. phil. In 1996/1997 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Criminology at the University of Tübingen and at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Gießen . Activity in Freiburg

As a special investigator to clarify the doping scandals around the Freiburg University Medical Center (keywords: Armin Klümper and Joseph Keul ), she was appointed chairman of an evaluation commission by the Freiburg university management in 2009. As part of her job, she asked Werner Franke to withdraw from the commission because of divulging commission secrets. However, activities that had not been agreed upon, such as the publication of partial results of the investigations by member Andreas Singler at the beginning of March 2015, led to doping in the Bundesliga for disagreements within the commission. As a by-product of their investigations, there were disagreements about doctorates with Hans-Hermann Dickhuth , the then President of the German Society for Sports Medicine, and his habilitation thesis. There were repeated arguments between Paoli and the university management. The Commission's investigation work was scheduled to be completed in autumn 2015. In March 2016, the commission disbanded without submitting a final report. However, the University of Freiburg received a total of seven scientific reports by Wolfgang Jelkmann, Heinz Schöch and Andreas Singler.
