The pond rails ( Gallinula ) are a genus from the rail family . They are distributed worldwide with nine types .
features
Pond claws usually have a dark, simple plumage , with the exception of the Solomon Islands woodrail . All pond claws have a bright beak and a colored frontal shield on the forehead. Some species have a noticeable white line on their dark flanks. All species that essentially live on the water as well as the Tristan island rail have white under -tail coverts .
habitat
Pond rails occur in very different habitats, from wet areas with open fresh water and growing vegetation, in which the typical representatives of the pond rails occur, to grassland with bushes, in which the Tristan island rail lives, to dense primeval forests, the habitats of the blue-fronted grouse and the samoa hen .
