In the period from 511 to 592 Paris was one of the many Frankish partial empires, like so many that arose from the usual Merovingian inheritance divisions . But if Austrasia , Burgundy and Neustria were able to build their own identity, Paris and the partial kingdom of Orleans did not.

The first king Childebert died without offspring, so that the only surviving son of Clovis I , Chlothar I, took over the part of the empire. His son Charibert received the partial kingdom after his death. He lived only six more years, so that his surviving three brothers decided to jointly administer Paris , which under their grandfather Clovis was at least the capital of the empire. But after Chilperich had finally defeated Sigibert in 575, he forcibly ended the condominium and incorporated Paris into his realm.
