Keizaburō Tejima

Keizaburō Tejima ( Japanese 手 島 圭 三郎 , Tejima Keizaburō ; * 1935 in Mombetsu , Hokkaidō , Japan ) is a Japanese illustrator and picture book author who works with the woodcut technique.

In 1957 he graduated from the Hokkaidō College of Education ( 北海道 教育 大学 , Hokkaidō Kyōiku Daigaku ).

His woodcuts were exhibited for the first time in 1965 in Hokkaidō. His first book publication was The Night of the Owls , which he published in March 1982 at Fukutake Shoten . For this and other publishers he created further picture books that, like the debut work, allow members of a certain animal species to determine the events and which have since become his trademark.

Tejima's books have been translated into English, German, French and Spanish and have received several awards, the book Fuchsträume 1986, for example, an honorable mention at the Bologna Ragazzi Award .
