Tsholofelo "Teko" Modise (born December 22, 1982 in Soweto ) is a South African football player . The attacking midfielder has been under contract with the Mamelodi Sundowns since 2010 and is part of the South African national team .

Club career

Modise made his first division debut in South Africa on September 2, 2001 for Ria Stars against Wits University. After the club was bought for the 2002/03 season by the South African Association against compensation from the league to reduce the field of participants, Modise moved to the second division Pietersburg Pillars . With the Pillars, which were renamed City Pillars in 2005, he narrowly missed promotion to the Premier Soccer League several times. When he was named the best player in the league after the 2005/06 season and failed in the promotion play-offs with the Pillars, he moved to the first division club Supersport United .

After only one year at Supersport, he surprisingly signed a three-year contract with league rival Orlando Pirates . With the Pirates he developed into a star player and top performer of his team and an advertising medium for numerous companies (McDonald's, Samsung, Nike). In 2008 and 2009 he was honored as the best player in the top South African league as PSL Footballer of the Year .

National team

Modise was appointed to the South African national team for the first time for the 2007 COSAFA Cup and led the team to victory in the tournament. He scored all three goals in South Africa in the course of the tournament (was the top scorer next to Paulin Voavy ) and was named the best player of the tournament. In January 2008 he took part as a regular player in the disappointing preliminary round at the African Cup of Nations in Ghana. In 2010 Modise took part in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in their own country, but South Africa was eliminated in the preliminary round.
