Tel Azor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tel Azor is a hill of ruins located about 6 km southeast of Tel Aviv in what is now the Azor district of the latter city. These are the remains of the ancient city of Azor. The place is mentioned in the Bible (Joshua 7:45 p.m., in the Septuagint ). The city also appears in the annals of Sennacherib , where the conquest of the city is reported.

The site is about 6 km from the sea on the road to Jerusalem . The actual hill of ruins is relatively small, but remains of the ancient settlement can be found scattered over a wide area, especially in the modern districts of Azor and Cholon . Most of them are remains of burials dating from the 4th millennium BC. To date to the Islamic period. Due to the modern development of the city, larger systematic excavations are difficult.
