Saurat ( identical in Occitan ) is a French commune with 636 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ariège department in the Occitania region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Foix , the canton Sabarthès (until 2015: canton Tarascon-sur-Ariège ) and the Haute-Ariège community association founded in 2017 . The residents call themselves Sauratois .
geography
Saurat is located about eleven kilometers south-southwest of Foix in the Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Nature Park on the Saurat River . Saurat is surrounded by the neighboring communities Brassac in the north, Ganac in the north and northeast, Montoulieu in the east and northeast, Bédeilhac-et-Aynat in the east, Rabat-les-Trois-Seigneurs in the south, Massat in the west, Boussenac in the west and northwest as well Le Bosc to the west and northwest.
