The Regional Natural Park Pyrénées Ariégeoises ( French Parc naturel régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises ) is located in the French Ariège department in the Occitanie region , in the historic province of Couserans . It extends from the chain of the High Pyrenees ( Montcalm , Mont Valier ) over the northern Pyrenees satellite massifs ( Massif de l'Arize , Massif des Trois Seigneurs ) to the northern Pyrenees foreland, into the so-called Little Pyrenees , with the striking Plantaurel Mountains . The area is partially bounded in the east by the Ariège river and also drained by the Lez , Salat , Vicdessos , Arize and Volp rivers, all of which are part of the Garonne river system . The park administration is based in La Bastide-de-Sérou ( Lage ).

The nature park was founded in 2009, covers an area of ​​around 2500 km² and a catchment area of ​​around 42,000 inhabitants. The nature park consists of 141 communities.
