history
The castle has existed since 1357 at the latest. At that time, armed citizens of Foix besieged the Count of Mirepoix, who had holed up in the castle L'Herm. A church Saint-Martin in the hamlet of Mon (t) laur, which has now disappeared, is mentioned in 1551. During the Wars of Religion in 1581 there was fierce fighting between Catholics and Huguenots in L'Herm. In the Middle Ages, the place was within the county of Foix , which was a crown domain of the King of France from 1607 until the French Revolution . From 1793 to 1801 the community belonged to the Tarascon district. In addition, L'Herm was in the canton of Foix from 1793 to 1984 and within the canton of Foix-Rural from 1984 to 2015 . The municipality has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Foix since 1801. Spanish republicans who supported the Resistance had their base at Col de Py in 1944. From there they fought the Wehrmacht. Between 1790 and 1794 the hamlets of the previous municipality of L'Herm merged with the municipalities of La Bastide de L'Herm (today La Bastide) and Montlaur (today Monlaur) to form the municipality as it is today.
