From 1793 to 1801 the community belonged to the Tarascon district. In addition, Serres-sur-Arget was within the canton of Foix from 1793 to 1984 and within the canton of Foix-Rural from 1984 to 2015 . The municipality has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Foix since 1801. Until 1958 the community was called Serres. To distinguish it from places of the same name, it was then given the addition and became Serres-sur-Arget. The abbey has only been a monastery again since 1991: the Benedictine Abbey of Pesquié . There are around 50 women.
