The Communauté d'agglomération Pays Foix-Varilhes is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté d'agglomération in the Ariège department in the Occitania region . It was founded on November 16, 2016 and comprises 42 parishes. The population is (January 1, 2015) 31,776 people. The administrative headquarters are in the small town of Foix . The community association is named after the former county Foix (from 1607 crown domain of the King of France) and the place Varilhes (until 2015 canton capital and capital of the Communauté de communes du Canton de Varilhes).

Historical development

The community association was created with effect from January 1, 2017 as the successor to the community associations Communauté de communes du Canton de Varilhes and the Communauté de communes du Pays de Foix .

With effect from January 1, 2018, the Freychenet municipality left the local association and joined the Communauté de communes du Pays d'Olmes .
