Bruno Fromme

Bruno Fromme OCist (* as Elmar Fromme on February 28, 1938 in Cologne ; † May 7, 2017 in Wittlich ) was a German Cistercian . He was abbot of Himmerod Abbey from 1991 to 2011 .

Life

Fromme studied after graduating from high school in 1957 at the Cologne Dreikönigsgymnasium philosophy, Catholic theology and art history at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn and the Bonn Collegium Albertinum . In 1959 he joined the monastery of Himmerod in the Eifel as a novice of the Cistercian order . From 1960 to 1964 he studied at the University of the Archabbey of Beuron and was involved in the reconstruction of the baroque Himmeroder Abbey Church . He made his profession as a monk on November 21, 1960 in Himmerod and was ordained a priest on August 16, 1964 in the local abbey church. Fromme initially worked in pastoral care and from 1969 to 1989 as a missionary in Brazil. In the Hardehausen-Itatinga Monastery , a Cistercian abbey in Itatinga , São Paulo , he was in charge of a parish of around 1,000 square kilometers as a pastor and was in charge of several large construction projects.

In succession to Ambrosius Schneider , he was abbot of Himmerod Abbey from 1991 to 2011 . Bruno Frommes was ordained abbot on March 21, 1991 by the Trier Bishop Hermann Josef Spital . For health reasons (heart attack) he resigned on January 18, 2011; his successor was Stephan Reimund Senge as prior administrator .

Fromme died in the evening hours of Guthirtensonntag in Wittlich hospital and was buried on May 11, 2017 in the monastery cemetery.
