Father Stephan Reimund Senge

Stephan Reimund Senge OCist (born March 29, 1934 in Hanover ) is a German religious priest , theologian , writer , poet and development worker in Sudan .

Life

Senge made his Matura in Vienna and entered 1958 as a monk in the Cistercian - Abbey Himmerod in the Eifel one. He studied Catholic theology at the Theological College in Beuron and was ordained a priest in 1964 .

Senge gained nationwide fame as the author of over 30 books with poetry , prose , stories, diary texts and parables . He also wrote a novel . The predominantly spiritual and meditative works were almost all published by Himmerod-Drucke and were largely illustrated by the graphic artist Ursula Hess . Senge is one of the few Christian authors from West Germany who were also published in the GDR .

On the occasion of his 70th birthday, the almost 600-page anthology A Smile was published, around six o'clock with texts from over 30 years of writing. In 1996 he was honored with the ring of honor of the European Authors' Association "The Cog" for his literary work .

Encouraged by a nun , Mother Emanuelle, who works for the benefit of the so-called “ garbage people ” in the slums of Cairo , Senge founded the Sudan Initiative in 1997 , which is dedicated to the protection and promotion of people in the war area in South Sudan and, for example, for the construction of Wells and schools. Senge spends several weeks in Sudan every year and monitors the progress of the projects and the use of the donated funds.

At the Himmerod Abbey he was responsible for looking after guests and for the retreat courses. He also publishes the Himmeroder circular several times a year . Twice a year he leads a "meditation hike" - a week of paddling or hiking - with around 20-30 participants. As a moderator, he leads through the talk series Biblical Night Café , in which he presents people whose lives and work are influenced in an unusual way by faith.

In the period from January 18 to October 10, 2011, he ran the abbey as administrator. Father Thomas Denter replaced him in this task.

After the abbey was abolished and the remaining confreres moved out, he remained the last monk in Himmerod.
