Montgaillard ( Occitan : Montgalhard ) is a place and a municipality in the south of France with 1,463 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ariège department in the Occitania region ; it belongs to the Arrondissement Foix and the canton Foix (until 2015: canton Foix-Rural ). The inhabitants are called Montgailhardais .

Montgaillard is located about 75 kilometers south-southeast of Toulouse on the Ariège River , which forms the western municipal boundary. Montgaillard is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Foix in the north and north-west, Pradières in the north-east, Soula in the east, Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat in the south and south-east, Prayols in the west and south-west and Ferrières-sur-Ariège in the west.

The National Route 20 runs through the municipality .
