Rouze ( Occitan : Rosa ) is a place and a municipality ( commune ) in the south of France with 85 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ariège department in the Occitania region .
location
The place Rouze is located in the Donezan landscape at an altitude of about 1080 meters above sea level. d. M. at the river Bruyante . The small spa town of Usson-les-Bains , near which the Katharerburg Usson is located, belongs to the municipality, but is located in the valley of the Aude . Ax-les-Thermes is about 33 kilometers (driving distance) to the west; the towns of Foix and Pamiers are about 75 and 95 kilometers to the northwest, respectively. The Spanish border town of Puigcerdà , on the other hand, is only 56 kilometers to the south-west.

In the 19th century the place had mostly between 400 and 600 inhabitants. The mechanization of agriculture led to a loss of jobs in the 20th century and, as a consequence, to a continuous decline in the number of inhabitants to the lowest values of the last decades.
economy
The inhabitants of Rouze live mainly from agriculture, with livestock farming and thus milk and cheese production in the foreground. In addition, the spa and hiking tourism plays an important role in the economic life of the small community, whose empty houses have been converted into holiday apartments ( gîtes ).
history
The age of the place Rouze is not clear; Usson Castle, about two kilometers away, is first mentioned in 1035. The small area of the Donetsan belonged to Aragón for a long time until King Peter II donated it to his vassals, the Counts of Foix , in 1208 . With the marriage between Gaston IV and Eleanor of Navarre in 1436, relations with the Kingdom of Navarre became closer; Henry IV considered it to belong to the Crown of France.

- The place is a good starting point for hikes in the wooded region of the Donezan and in the valley of the Aude.
