Crampagna ( Occitan : Crampanhan ) is a French commune with 840 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the Arrondissement Foix , the municipality association Pays Foix-Varilhes and the canton Val d'Ariège (until 2015: canton Varilhes ). The inhabitants are called Crampagnais / Crampagnais .
geography
Crampagna is located around 65 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Toulouse in the center of the Ariège department near the small town of Foix . The community consists of the villages Carol and Crampagna , numerous hamlets and scattered settlements as well as individual farms. Crampagna is a town in the Massif du Plantaurel , which is part of the Piémont pyrénéen (also known as the pre-Pyrenees). The municipality is located just east of the Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Nature Park . Large parts of the community are forested. The highest point in the municipality is the Pic de Montmioul in the north of the municipality. The village of Crampagna is on the Ariège and in terms of traffic on the D31a. The N20 from Paris to Spain runs east of the municipality.
Crampagna is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Rieux-de-Pelleport in the north, Varilhes in the northeast, Saint-Jean-de-Verges in the east, Foix and Vernajoul in the southeast, Loubières and Baulou in the south and Loubens in the west and northwest.
history
Traces of settlement from Gallo-Roman times have been found in the south of the municipality. The castle was built during the 13th century. In the Middle Ages, the place was within the county of Foix , which was a crown domain of the King of France from 1607 until the French Revolution . The community belonged to the Mirepoix-Pamiers district from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Crampagna was from 1793 to 2015 within the canton of Varilhes . The parish was from 1801 to 1926 and has been reassigned to the Arrondissement of Pamiers since 1942. Between 1926 and 1942 it was part of the Foix arrondissement.
