Pech ( Occitan : Puèg ) is a French commune with 37 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Foix and the Haute Ariège community association founded in 2016 . The inhabitants are called Péchois .
geography
The municipality of Pech is located in the Pyrenees , 20 kilometers south of Foix and about 23 kilometers north of the border with Andorra . The municipal area of 4.81 km² connects directly to the south with the municipality of Les Cabannes above the Ariège river . The community area stretches four kilometers south in the direction of the Pyrenees ridge. The highest point is reached at the southern end on the summit of the Sarrat des Auzels at 1738 meters above sea level. Another peak in the wooded high mountain scenery is the Pierrefitte ( 1606 m )
In the mountains south of the village of Pech there are two caves inaccessible to visitors.
Pech borders on the neighboring communities of Les Cabannes in the north, Albiès in the east, Aston in the southwest and west and Château-Verdun in the northwest.

Attractions
There are no churches or chapels in Pech. The Church of Saint-Martial in the neighboring parish of Les Cabannes is responsible for the sea oil supply.

Economy and Infrastructure
The location in the high mountains makes arable farming impossible. In Pech, there is a full-time agricultural business that keeps cattle on a few clearing islands.
The RN 20 / E 9 runs from Tarascon-sur-Ariège to Puigcerdà in Catalonia through the municipality of Les Cabannes to the north ; parallel to this, the railway line from Portet-Saint-Simon to Puigcerdà with a stop in Les Cabannes. The mountain road D 522 opens up the southern municipal area on the way to the ski resort on the Plateau de Beille , which has already been a stage destination of the Tour de France several times .
