Dalou ( Occitan : Dalon ) is a French commune with 772 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ariège department in the Occitania region ; it belongs to the Arrondissement Foix , the municipality association Pays Foix-Varilhes and the canton Val d'Ariège (until 2015: canton Varilhes ). The inhabitants are called Dalousiens / Dalousiennes .

geography

Dalou is located around 66 kilometers southeast of the city of Toulouse in the center of the Ariège department near the small town of Foix . The community consists of the elongated village of Dalou, several hamlets and scattered settlements as well as individual farms. Large parts of the community are forested. The village of Dalou is conveniently located on the D13. The N20 from Paris to Spain runs through the municipality.

Dalou is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Varilhes in the north-west and north, Saint-Félix-de-Rieutord and east, Gudas in the south-east and Saint-Jean-de-Verges in the south-west and west.

history

The municipality is mentioned for the first time in a letter from Roger de Carcassonne from 970. The castle was built during the 15th century. Dalou and his castle were sacked by the Huguenots in 1621. In the Middle Ages, the place was within the county of Foix , which was a crown domain of the King of France from 1607 until the French Revolution . The community belonged to the Mirepoix-Pamiers district from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Dalou was within the canton of Varilhes from 1793 to 2015 . The parish was from 1801 to 1926 and has been reassigned to the Arrondissement of Pamiers since 1942. Between 1926 and 1942 it was part of the Foix arrondissement.
