Telacanthura ( Syn . : Telecanthura ) is a small genus of birdsinthe sailor family (Apodidae). The distribution of the two species of the genus is restricted to Africa. They are quite large representatives of theChaeturini tribe .
features
The body length is between 14 centimeters for the baobab sailor and 15 centimeters for the Ituris sailor . The clearly scale-like pattern of the throat is a clear feature of the representatives of this genus. This pattern is formed by feathers that are pale in the middle and dark in the end. Besides this lighter throat area, the plumage of the ituris is very dark black-brown, while the baobab is more brown in color and shows other lighter areas on the rump and belly.
The toes are arranged anisodactyl . The straight cut tail is comparatively long for representatives of the Chaeturini tribe , the "tail thorns", the quills protruding over the flags of the control feathers , are clearly developed.
Systematics
The species of this genus were originally assigned to the genus Chaetura , in the course of the division of the genus Chaetura by RK Brooke in 1970 , the Telacanthura species became an independent genus.
