Tele Uno (Austria)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tele Uno was a private television broadcaster that broadcasted between 1985 and 1989 from the border triangle Italy / Austria / Yugoslavia (now Slovenia ). The program was in German with a strong regional connection to Carinthia , partly also in Italian.

history

At that time, broadcasting reporting in Austria was regulated by the state and the ORF had a broadcasting monopoly. Only after Austria joined the EU was the broadcasting monopoly loosened and private radio and television stations were allowed.

Satellite television did not emerge until the late 1980s with the launch of the ASTRA satellites. Cable television was also subject to the state broadcasting monopoly. Thus at that time only terrestrial distribution was possible. Because of the state broadcasting monopoly in Austria, the transmitter at the border triangle broadcast on the Italian side. It reached around 120,000 households in Carinthia, Slovenia (then Yugoslavia) and in the Canal Valley (Italy).

Since it was a private television station, there were no government grants, such as for the state broadcaster ORF. The financing was purely from advertising income. The costs for the advertisements were quite cheap compared to the ORF and so many medium-sized Carinthian companies used the opportunity to advertise.

The TELE UNO Center was built in Villach, which was intended as the headquarters for the impending relaxation of the Austrian state broadcasting monopoly. However, the establishment of the TELE UNO Center was an economic failure and so the operator went bankrupt, which also had an impact on the broadcasting operations of TELE UNO.

program

The program offered regional contributions, mainly from Carinthia. At that time, the state broadcaster ORF did not have a regional television program like the state today and therefore little reference to local Carinthian reporting. The TELE UNO news program was tailored to the Carinthia area. There were local contributions from various sporting and cultural events. Feature films were also broadcast, mainly in German, some in Italian. At the end of the broadcast there was usually the "Betthupferl", a short erotic feature film.

Others

There was also the radio program RADIO UNO, but it had nothing to do with the TV station TELE UNO.
