Telemecanique was founded in 1924 by Michel Le Gouellec as a company in Nanterre and transferred to Groupe Schneider in 1994. The name is listed there as a core brand that specializes in the automation of industrial processes. In 2009 the majority of Telemecanique products and solutions were integrated into the Schneider Electric portfolio . The sensor technology area was continued under the Telemecanique Sensors brand .

Control and performance optimization of machines and processes

At Schneider Electric, the Telemecanique brand stands for the automation of industrial processes. It covers important functions for the control and regulation of processes:

  • The data is recorded by sensors at the point of origin, i.e. on the system or machine.
  • The processing of the data by programmable logic controllers consists of processing the data recorded by the sensors and operating devices. Processes and interlocks are stored in the control program. The actions required for the next production step are determined from the data and output to the actuators.
  • The power control consists in executing the commands given by the controller. For example, motors are controlled and protected against overload and short circuits.
  • The human-machine dialogue gives the user the opportunity to intervene in the automated process. From simple electromechanical pushbuttons and indicator lights to signal towers to operating terminals and visualization systems, the operator is provided with instruments for controlling and configuring his process or machine.

history

Foundation and development

In 1924 Michel Le Gouellec bought the "Manufacture d'Appareillage Electrique" in Nanterre. The company name was changed in 1926 to "Télémécanique Electric". In 1929 and 1930, contactors with rated currents of up to 320 A, then up to 1750 A, were introduced. 3000 and 5000 volt switches have also been developed.

The company expanded and in 1939 had 325 employees and nine subsidiaries and agencies outside France. Ten years later, the number of employees reached 1200. 1952 exhibited Télémécanique at the Hanover Fair. Then Télémécanique products were launched on the German market. In 1953 the prefabricated power distribution rails (today rail distribution systems according to DIN EN60439-1 / -2) Canalis were developed. The company's expansion continued from 1960 to 1970. Eleven subsidiaries were founded, including in Italy, Spain, Great Britain and the USA. In the meantime, 4,000 people work in twelve production facilities and the subsidiaries. In addition, Télémécanique had 240 sales partners. In 1964 the contactor series B up to 20 A was introduced, one year later the contactor up to 40 A.

Other important developments were the introduction of the Altivar frequency converter and the TSX programmable logic controller , both in 1980. In 1983 the new concept of the Integral 32 high-performance contactor was introduced.

In 1988 the company had 14,500 employees, 32 branches outside France and a turnover of 1.2 billion euros.

Continuation at Schneider Electric

In 1988, Télémécanique was taken over by Schneider and integrated into Groupe Schneider in 1994. From 1999 the name Telemecanique was continued as one of the three core brands of Schneider Electric SA. There the Telemecanique brand stands for the specialist field of control and performance optimization of machines and processes. In 2009, the Telemecanique brand name was fully integrated into Schneider Electric together with Merlin Gerin ; only the sensor technology area was continued under Telemecanique Sensors.
