Televisa is a Mexican media company based in Mexico City . It is listed on Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC) on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores and the New York Stock Exchange .

The media group dominates the television market in Mexico, the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world, with audiences of 60 to 85%. In addition to Mexico, it is also active in other Latin American countries and mainly exports telenovelas to over 75 countries.

history

The company emerged under the name Telesistema Mexicano in 1955 from the three previous channels XHTV-TV (founded in 1950), XEW-TV (founded in 1951) and XHGC-TV (founded in 1952). Televisa is owned by the Mexican entrepreneur family Azcárraga .

Telesistema Mexicano merged with its main competitor Televisión Independiente de México (TIM), which launched in 1968 on the Mexican media market with the XHTIM-TV (Canal 8) channel , and Televisa was created .

The news program 24 Horas has been one of the best-known programs since 1970 . The news anchor Jacobo Zabludovsky presented the program for 28 years .
